Juliana was a name of a company owned by Delizza & Elster, manufacturers of rhinestone jewelry for over 4 decades. DeLizza & Elster were manufacturers that produced jewelry for many of the designers and makers from the mid-40's through the early 70's. Juliana was their own line, sold direct to retail stores such as Macy's and not to other wholesalers or makers. It was sold on cards and had hang tags on strings, and since most of us remove the tags from items we wear, most Juliana in the market today is not marked. Frank DeLizza (original owner of the company) tells us that the collectible pieces now identified as 'Juliana' were not, in fact, only made for that line, but indeed were made by his company for years and years, including for Juliana. The Juliana compnay was itself only in existence for 2 years, but the jewelry was made long before and after.
This gallery includes vintage jewelry that are known to have been manufactured by the DeLizza & Elster company. The name Juliana is still used, though these pieces should technically be called 'DeLizza & Elster'. But, as 'Juliana' is more well known, we still use it in conjunction with DeLizza & Elster, or D&E, for short. You will frequently see the names used together on this site, such as D&E aka Juliana or D&E/Juliana.

The characteristics that define the unique D&E/Juliana jewelry are identified both in construction and design. The pieces in our D&E/Juliana collection have all of these characteristics (not just one or two) and in many cases, the matching distinctive 5-link bracelet has been identified. Brooches and necklaces are attributed based on several construction details along with style and design. Most items are confirmed D&E designs by Mr. DeLizza. Please also visit our archived D & E page top see more and to help you with verification

The pieces in this gallery are D&E/Juliana designs specifically, and this page does not include what has become known as 'Juliana style', or pieces with art glass stone but not known to be made by the DeLizza & Elster company. We shy away from that description, as it is very broad and can be confusing. Pieces with art glass stones and/or colorful rhinestone combinations not attributed to D&EE/Juliana are in our 'unsigned' sections.
